Objective and Audience:
(German version: see below / Deutsche Version: siehe unten)
At the 21st Annual Conference of the German Crystallographic Society (DGK) in March 2013 the work group “Young Crystallographers” (YC) was established. We are aimed at creating an informative and interactive platform for the “young” scientists. Here all young scientists and those young at heart can get involved, whose scientific training and profiling is not finalized. This should include people during their studies up to postdocs and also beyond.
The main objective of the work group is the integration of young crystallographers with differing professional backgrounds. For this purpose, we will provide you with three different tools:
- information: work groups with a crystallographic focus (national and international), dates (courses, conferences, etc.), jobs, grants, awards
- forum: exchange on professional and other relevant topics
- blog: articles on crystallographic topics on a regular basis
The different domains should also be interconnected, e.g., by transferring blog articles into the information database or by the pursuing of pressing topics from the forum discussions by us. A further step in the formation of a lively work group should be meetings at the annual DGK meetings, as well as the planning of an own workshop for the group.
We have recently summarized our activities, structure and milestones on the occasion of our 10th birthday in the IUCr 75th anniversaty special issue in Acta E. You can find it here:
‘Young crystallographers’ rejuvenate crystallography in Germany
In principle, joining the DGK is not required to take part in the work group YC. However, we would like to encourage you to join the DGK and thereby benefit from the whole range of possibilities.
To join the work group YC, please simply send an e-mail to the secretary (Jan Philipp Wöhrle, info.dgkyc (at) gmail.com) in order to be included into the list of participants. For the recommended additonal membership in the DGK, please send the application form to the chairman: DGK membership.
