DGK Workgroup Mineralogical Crystallography
The working group “Mineralogical Crystallography” is dedicated to the crystallographic investigation of naturally occurring and geologically relevant materials – as well as structurally related synthetic
materials. The focus lies on both classical and modern questions in mineralogy, crystal chemistry, and structural research – ranging from atomic structure determination to crystal growth, phase transitions, and functional properties of minerals. Both experimental methods and theoretical approaches, such as computer-aided modeling of crystal structures, are employed.
The aim of the working group is to encourage exchange at the interface of crystallography, mineralogy, geosciences, and materials research, to highlight current developments, and to inspire joint projects.
Key topics of interest are:
- Experimental determination and analysis of the crystal structure of
natural solids, as well as their theoretical modeling - In-situ methods, e.g. crystallographic investigations under high
pressures and temperatures - Structure–property relationships in geologically relevant materials
- Crystallographic aspects of formation and transformation processes in
the Earth’s crust and interior, as well as in other planetary bodies
